Oh What a Night!

Breaking News: Barack Obama Elected President of the United States of America!

What a headline!

We are overwhelmed with emotion... we are speechless.

We are hopeful... we are full.

We look each other in the eyes and see possibility for our future and our children's future that did not exist before this moment.

We are proud!

To honor the words of the late Martin Luther King, Jr...

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

Oh What a Day!

Wow!  It seems like ages ago when Jamil and I attended an Obama fundraiser in May 2007 at H2O in DC.  I kinda of remembered him from the 2004 DNC, but when I saw Obama on Oprah I was hooked!  So, attending the fundraiser in '07 was the beginning of my journey in politics.  Instead of keeping a distance and playing the "I just don't know enough to talk about the candidates and issues" card, I started reading and talking and listening and one of my favorite things about this educational process has been sharing it with Jamil.  We have very similar views, but we also challenge each other to think about the issues and really figure out for ourselves what it is that we believe in.

So, after this long, windy road, it only seemed fitting that we go to the polls together on this historical election day.  We woke up around 5am and walked to our polling place conveniently located at South Lakes High School right next to our neighborhood to find over 200 people already there!  We made bets with the woman in front of us on how long it would take to make it through... much to my delight I grossly overestimated with my 1hr 20 min as it only took me 35 minutes ones the doors opened... thank you to Precinct 244!

Just found Vimeo

If I could take more vacations, I'd probably be a consistent early adopter. Instead, I spend my vacations just catching up. Today I found this site called Vimeo that has me wanting to buy a video camera and go create stuff. I found several inspirational user created videos, and this 5 min video was the best so far. It is embedded below.

We can have our cake & eat it too!

Monday, the 27th was our 1st Anniversary and we chose to partake in the tradition of eating our wedding cake top.  I've heard mixed reviews about the edible-ness of a year old cake... mostly that it tastes stale or sour or just plain "old".  So, we figured we'd go through the hassle anyway and if it's bad then at least we'll have all that good luck or whatever it is that eating the cake is supposed to bring.  Our cake top resided in my parents freezer for about 10 months after which I threw it in a cooler and took it on a 6 hour journey to our freezer.  Then we packed it in our carry on suitcase and with my effort of full disclosure to the TSA we luckily did not get pulled aside for a search.  The cake did a nice job of thawing on the trip down here and then fit perfectly in the refrigerator in our room.  Soooooooooo, in case you're wondering how our cake fared it's year long journey... it was amazing!  Just as yummy and moist as it was at our reception!  Thank you to whoever it was that wrapped it up so well and to my parents for providing such a wonderful home during it's infancy! :)

On top of all the luck we'll have from eating our cake and
the sweet goodness it provided our pallets, we will also
treasure the photos we took and the fun we had trying to get the right lighting and timing and faces and such.  It was a wonderful ending to a wonderful 1st Anniversary and
we're looking forward to many more!

Yes, it is a small world

It's also an overused cliché, but appropriate. I would have never thought we'd run into someone we knew, not even a remote acquaintance.

But out of the blue we were approached by Angel Peitz and her husband Chris (they got married last week). While I didn't remember them, Lambeth did as they grew up in the same town, and have some common friends. Those two caught on a lot of old gossip and stories. Next time they start girly talkin' I'll grab Chris and go get into some trouble ;)
